There are two steps to making Kevlar.
Kevlar is a fabric that is exclusively made by Du Point. Kevlar fiber has a tensile strength comparable with that of carbon fiber, a modulus between those of glass and carbon fibers and lower density than both. Kevlar aramid is used for high-performance composite applications where lightweight, high strength and stiffness, damage resistance, and resistance to fatigue and stress rupture are important.

Kevlar and other polyamides, all conjure up images of ultra strong materials that are elbowing out more conventional construction materials such as steel. This substitution pattern around the aromatic ring causes the different properties, kevlar has a greater elastic modulus making it tough whereas nomex changes its conformation with heat (ie it absorbs heat and changes chemically) hence its greater heat resistance. Aramid , in full aromatic polyamide, any of a series of synthetic polymers (substances made of long chainlike multiple-unit molecules) in which repeating units containing large phenyl rings are linked together by amide groups. Amide groups (CO-NH) form strong bonds that are resistant to solvents and heat. Aromatic polyamide (aramid) threads are the result.
They are further refine by dissolving the threads and spinning them into regular fibres. Both Kevlar and Twaron belong to the aramid family of synthetic fibers. DuPont is the manufacturer of Kevlar while Teijin is the manufacturer of Twaron (originally produced by Akzo). They are heat resistant, cut resistant, chemical resistant, and can handle high impacts.
